The Unpopular Opinions Book Tag

Hey everyone!

I was tagged by the wonderful Sarah (Book Hooked Nook) to do this tag. This tag looked like so much fun because I’ve never properly thought about my unpopular opinions, so some of these prompts were a real challenge. Let’s get into the tag!

A popular book or series that you didn’t like

Leah on the Offbeat

I’ve been trying to read Leah on the Offbeat for around a year now, but I just can’t get into it! So many people absolutely love this book and I loved Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda so much, but I just found Leah so unlikeable and I got half way through the book and couldn’t see any character development. I will still read Becky Albertalli’s other books though as I adored Simon.

A popular book or series that everyone else seems to hate but you love

I can’t think of any books for this prompt. I generally don’t read books that have too many bad reviews.

A love triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with OR an OTP that you don’t like

Shadow and Bone

As much as I love the Grisha Trilogy, I did not like Mal one bit. I definitely wasn’t a fan of the Darkling either, I was hoping Alina would end up with Nikolai and so I was utterly heartbroken by his ending in the series.

A popular book genre that you hardly reach for

Dystopian books were what originally got me back into reading in high school. I was absolutely obsessed with the Hunger Games trilogy and the Divergent trilogy. However, I think that as my reading tastes have changed over the years I have mostly drifted away from books set in dystopian worlds.

A popular or beloved character that you did not like

I was never a fan of Bella or Edward whilst reading the Twilight saga but I loved the rest of the characters.

A popular author that you can’t seem to get into

I’ve had to read a few of Shakespeare’s plays during my time in school and I just hated every single moment of them. I really wish I could be someone who loves Shakespeare’s works but I don’t think I ever will be.

A popular book trope that you’re tired of seeing

Insta-love. One of my favourite things about romances in books is reading about the characters’ feelings for eachother changing and developing. My preferred tropes are hate to love and friendship to love.

The saying goes “The book is always better than the movie”, but what movie or TV show do you prefer more than the book?

Vampire Diaries

I started reading the Vampire Diaries books before I watched the TV show, and honestly I’m so glad I started watching the show because I instantly preferred it. It will always be a TV show that I hold close to my heart.

The TBR Tag

Hi all! I was tagged by the wonderful Sarah over at Book Hooked Nook to do the TBR tag. I have seen this tag a few times and I loved reading other people’s answers. So, without further ado let’s get to my answers!

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?

I use Goodreads and put my monthly TBR in my planner, but I’m not great at sticking to my TBR.

Is your To Be Read mostly print or E-books?

My TBR is mostly print with the odd e-book here and there.

How do you decide which book from your To Be Read to read next?

I’m completely a mood reader, so I usually just go with my gut when I pick my next read.

A book that has been on your To Be Read the longest?

Northern Lights

Northern Lights by Philip Pullman has been on my TBR the longest. I keep picking this book up then getting distracted by other books and never finishing it!

A book that you recently added to your To Be Read?

A Study in Charlotte

I recently added A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro to my TBR. I have only heard good things about this book and I have never read a Sherlock Holmes retelling before.

A book on your To Be Read strictly because it has a beautiful cover?

State of Sorrow

None of the books on my TBR are there purely based on their cover, however, State of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury is a book that I’m very interested in reading and it JUST SO HAPPENS to have a beautiful cover.

A book on your To Be Read that you never actually plan on reading?

I go through my TBR quite often to get rid of any books that I don’t want to read anymore, so I can safely say that I would like to read all of the books on my TBR at some point.

An unpublished book on your To Be Read that you’re excited for?

I absolutely can’t wait to read Enchentée by Gita Trelease. I’ve heard such amazing things about this book!

A book on your To Be Read that everyone else has read but you?

Lady Midnight

I feel like everyone but me has read Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare. I really want to read this book but I need to finish her other series’ before starting this one.

A book on your To Be Read that everyone recommends to you?

I feel like people are always telling me to read Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. I really need to get to this one soon!

A book on your To Be Read that you are DYING to read?

Hunting Prince Dracula

I am absolutely DYING to read Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco. I really really enjoyed Stalking Jack the Ripper and I can’t wait to jump back into this series.

The number of books on your To Be Read?

I currently have 135 books on my Goodreads TBR, but I’m sure that there are a few impulse buys on my shelf that I haven’t put on my TBR yet.

What is a book on your TBR that you can’t wait to read? Let me know in the comments.

Thanks for reading!

Beauty and the Beast Book Tag

I absolutely love Beauty and the Beast, so you can only imagine how happy I was when I was tagged by the lovely Sarah over at Book Hooked Nook to do this post. So, without further ado, let’s get to the tag!

“Oh what a guy, Gaston!” – A villain you can’t help but love

I’m not sure whether Draco Malfoy can be considered a proper villain but I think he definitely has villainish tendencies. I can’t help but love him because although he was brought up to be bad, he has a lot of potential to be good.

“Here’s where she meets prince charming” – Your OTP

I’m only up to City of Glass in The Mortal Instruments, but I ship Alec and Magnus so hard.

“I want so much more than this provincial life” – A character destined for greater things

love, hate, other filters

Maya from Love, Hate and Other Filters goes through so much hate and discrimination in this book, but she is extremely talented and is destined for so much more than her small town.

“Be our guest!” – A book that made you hungry

I’d say any book with food in it.

“Beauty and the Beast” – Opposites attract

ron hermione

I spent a very long time thinking about this prompt and I could only really think of Ron and Hermione. They have such different personalities but they work so well together.

“But there’s something in him that I simply didn’t see” – A character who is more than they appear

Miss Peregrine

You could say it’s because he’s invisible, but Millard from Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children proved himself to be extremely brave by the end pf the first book.

“I was innocent and certain, now I’m wiser but unsure” – A book that changed you in some way

I will always say To Kill a Mockingbird for prompts like this. That book changed me so much.

“Kill the Beast!” – A book you picked up because of hype

Draker Shade

I picked up A Darker Shade of Magic because of the hype. I certainly was not disappointed and this book deserved all the hype it can get!

“I’ll never shake away the pain” – A book moment that always makes you cry

I will never not cry at this moment.

“How does a moment last forever” – A book you’ve loved since you were little

when we were very young

My parents and grandparents used to read When We Were Very Young to me as a child. I loved the poems in this book and it is a book that I will read to my future children.

Is there a book that you are very sentimental towards? Let me know in the comments.

The Brooklyn Nine Nine Book Tag

After a unintended but much needed break from blogging I’m back with one of my favourite tags yet. I was tagged by the wonderful Amiee to do the Brooklyn Nine Nine tag and I was very excited to finally write this post, so without further ado let’s get to the questions!

Jake Peralta – A character who lives to be the hero

I chose Jace from The Mortal Instruments for this one. I have only read the first two books so far but from what I know of Jace he is very egotistical and seems to live to save the day.

Amy Santiago – A character that empowers you

I think that Audrey Rose from Stalking Jack the Ripper is so empowering because she defies stereotypes of Victorian women and goes after her dream job even though it is not thought to be suitable for a woman at the time.

Captain Holt – An amazing diverse character character that breaks stereotypes

I believe that Maya from Love, Hate and Other Filters fits this category as she is a diverse character that goes through a lot of troubles which involve stereotypes of her ethnicity.

Rosa Diaz – A bad-ass female character you’d hate to mess with

Honestly, I would hate to anger Lila from A Darker Shade of Magic. She is a force to be reckoned with.

Charles Boyle – An awkward, but oh-so-lovable character

Clark from The Unexpected Everything was so awkward in the beginning of the book but I absolutely loved this character from the start

Terry Jeffords – The big guy that looks tough with a soft heart

I haven’t read past Scarlet in The Lunar Chronicles, but from what I’ve read I believe Wolf fits this description.

Gina Linetti – A book or series on your TBR that has a massive fanbase

I have chosen Uprooted by Naomi Novik for this one as I don’t think I have heard a single bad thing about this novel. I only ever hear massive praises for this book and I really need to pick it up!

Scully & Hitchcock – An iconic fictional duo

I believe that Audrey Rose & Thomas Creswell from Stalking Jack the Ripper fit this description because they work so well together and compliment eachother so well professionally.

Adrian Pimento – A loose canon of a character

I definitely think that Alice from The Hazel Wood fits this description as she is a character who is very impulsive and angry at times. This character is very unpredictable and does some very dangerous things on a whim.

The Vulture – An antagonist that steals the show

Count Olaf from A Series of Unfortunate Events absolutely steals the show from the children at times with his funny remarks and very entertaining characterisation.

The Pontiac Bandit – The antagonist you can’t help but love

I have only read the first book from the Shades of Magic series but I loved Holland as an antagonist as he seemed so conflicted and genuinely remorseful of some of the things he had done.

Let me know who your favourite Brooklyn Nine Nine character is in the comments!

Thanks for reading,

The Disney Book Tag

This tag was created by Katytastic on Youtube back in 2015. I had completely forgotten that this tag existed until now but I am very happy it does exist because I love Disney and I love books, making this the perfect tag.

The Little Mermaid – a character who is out of their element, a ‘fish out of water’.

royals cover

I chose Daisy from Royals by Rachel Hawkins for this one. Daisy was thrown into a royal life of which was so different from her own life. Everything about Daisy’s new life was different from her old one from the way that she had to act around others to her mode of transport.

Cinderella – a character who goes through a major transformation.

The only answer I could think of for this was Harry, Ron and Hermione from the Harry Potter series. These characters experience so much development as they grow up throughout the series that they are almost completely different people by the final book than they were in the first book.

Snow White – a book with an eclectic cast of characters.

I love Rhysand and his friends! They are all so different which is what makes them such a great group. The characterisations contrasted and complemented each other perfectly.

Sleeping Beauty – a book that put you to sleep.

The Moonstone

I had to read The Moonstone for college and it bored me soooo much. I couldn’t connect or relate to any of the characters and, being half Indian, I didn’t enjoy the way in which Wilkie Collins portrayed the Indian Brahmins.

The Lion King – a character that had something traumatic happen to them in childhood.

I can’t say what happens as it would spoil this book. Kiko has something very traumatic happen to her in Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman. This book was very emotional, heartbreaking but beautiful.

Beauty and the Beast – a beast of a book (a big book) that you were intimidated by, but found the story to be beautiful.

The Book Thief

Both The Book Thief and A Court of Wings and Ruin intimidated me very much with their length but once I started reading them I ended up absolutely flying through them and they’ve ended up being some of my favourite books.

Aladdin – a character who gets their wish granted, for better or for worse.

Mulan – a character who pretends to be someone or something they are not.

I’m putting Cinder for both Aladdin and Mulan because in this Cinderella retelling Cinder so desperately wishes to be away from her horrible step mother. This is what pushes her to pretend that she is something that she is not and ends up getting her into a terrible situation.

Toy Story – a book with characters you wish would come to life.

To All the Boys I've Loved Before

After watching the new Netflix movie, I just want these characters to come to life even more please.

Disney Descendants – your favourite villain or morally ambiguous character.

city of bones

I have always loved Valentine from The Mortal Instruments as a villain because no matter how awful he is, he truly believes that what he is doing is the right thing. This makes him such a complex character to me.
